Motion by Commissioner Fults and seconded by Commissioner Vevea to change the regular
December meeting from December 11, 1991 to December 4, 1991; and meet for two hours
discussing only 1992 Goals.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Wagner, Commissioners Fults, Nelson and Vevea.
Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Gorecki, Greenberg and Kent.

Case #3: Price Quotes for Monument Signs.

Project Manager Gromberg stated that at the last meeting the EDC discussed different styles of
signs and developed some proposals as to the shape and construction materials to be used for the
signs. The City has now received tentative proposals on the cost of the installation and
development of these signs. City staff would like to get the following recommendations from the
EDC to forward this issue to the City Council:

1)
2)
3)

Budgeting for monument signs
Style and materials for the signs
Location of the signs

Commissioner Fults presented a new sign style but stated that in order to get price quotes, he needs
to get recommendations on the size and material from which the signs would be constructed. He
also indicated that a local businessman, Jim Charest, was interested in constructing the signs for
the City of Ramsey.

The Commission discussed the style of sign that Commissioner Fults presented.

Commissioner Nelson suggested an emblem be placed on the sign to be associated with the City of
Ramsey.

Chairman Wagner suggested the sign should say "The City of Ramsey Welcomes You".
Therefore, if Ramsey's logo changes, the sign would not become outdated.

Mr. Schroeder indicated that the City's Parks Department will provide the landscaping
maintenance. Trees, and whether or not the sign would be built on a berm, would depend upon
the location of the sign.

Following the discussion, the EDC recommended the following specifications for the sign:

B.
C.
D.
E.

6 feet in height
15 feet in length
12 inches in width
Placed on 12 inch floating slab
The letters would be laid out as follows on the sign:
Six inches from the top would appear "CITY" in eight inch bronze letters
Six inches further down would appear "OF" in four inch letters
Six inches below that would appear "RAMSEY" in fourteen inch letters
Six inches below that would appear "WELCOMES YOU" in eight inch letters
The signs would be constructed of a light color of aggregate or light color of brick

Bids would only be for the construction of the signs and not for the actual placement, landscaping
or lighting around the signs.

Economic Development Commission / November 13, 1991
Page 3 of 4
