Case # 5 <br />AUTHORIZE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO ATTEND THE GLOBAL RETAIL <br />REAL ESTATE CONVENTION BY ICSC <br />By: Kurt Ulrich, City Administrator <br />Background: <br />The EDA hired the Buxton Group to conduct a market study for Town Center and the 167' <br />Commercial node. The market analysis is complete and on January 27th letters were sent out to <br />Tim Horton, Panera, Uno Restaurants, Great Harvest Bread, Dunkin Donuts, TGI Fridays, <br />Hollywood Tan, Play it Again Sports. A copy of the letter that was sent out is attached for your <br />review. The International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is an important venue to meet <br />representatives of retail businesses that are being sought for our community. The conference <br />also serves as an educational tool to help Staff become more effective in marketing our City. <br />Buxton has a booth and meeting space available and will allow the City to use that space to meet <br />with prospective clients. As a member of ICSC we are given advance notice on who will be in <br />attendance to the conference and will be able to set up meetings in advance. <br />The City Economic Development Authority has authorized EDA funds for the City Economic <br />Development Coordinator and Mike Mulrooney to represent the City at this conference. <br />The cost for registration for the conference is $397. Complete packages that include conference <br />registration, travel and lodging start at $972. This conference comes highly recommended by <br />Buxton. The Council is being asked to consider whether they would like to authorize the <br />funding of conference registration, travel and lodging for up to three Council Members to attend. . <br />Funding Source: Council Contingency <br />Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the funding of <br />conference registration, travel and lodging, for up to three (3) Council Members. <br />Council Action: Motion to authorize the funding of ICSC conference registration, travel and <br />lodging for up to three Council Members, to include Mayor Ramsey and Council/EDA members <br />Look and Elvig, or alternate Council members as determined by the City Administrator if the <br />three aforementioned Council members are unable or unwilling to attend, at a cost not to exceed <br />$1400 per person. <br />Attachment: <br />Letter from Buxton to Dunkin Donuts <br />RECON Conference itinerary and registration form <br />03-24-09 <br />
