An act relating to the registration and use of snowmobiles; amending certain <br />laws relating to snowmobile registration and operation; exempting snowmobiles from <br />the motor vehicle retail installment sales; providing penalties; amending <br />Minnesota Statutes 1969, Section 84.81, Subdivision 3; 84.82, Subdivisions 1, 3, 6, <br />and adding a subdivision; 84.86, Subdivision 1; 84.87, Subdivision 1; 84.872; 84.88; <br />168.66, Subdivision 5;, and Chapter 84, by adding a section. <br /> <br />Be it enacted by the Legislatume of the State of Minnesota: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1969, Section 84.81, Subdivision 3, is amended <br />to read: -~,... ....................... , ......... ':.~;~..~:~m~':LhL .... <br /> <br /> Subd. 3. SNOWMOBILES: REGISTRATION AND USE. "SnOwmobile" means a self- <br />propelled vehicle designed for travel on snow or ice steered by skis or runners. <br /> <br /> Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1969, Section 84.82, Subdivision 1, is amended <br />to read: <br /> <br />84.82 SNOWMOBILE REGISTRATION. Subdivision 1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS. Except as <br />hereinafter provided, no person shall after June 30, 1969, own, operate, or transport <br />any snowmobile within the state unless such snowmobile has been registered in <br />accordance with the provisions of section 84.81 to 84.88, except snov~obiles in <br />transit by a manufactumer, distributor, or dealer. No person shall sell a snowmobile <br />without furnishing the buyer a bill of sale on a form prescribed by the commissioner. <br /> <br /> Sec. 3. Minnesota Statutes 1969, Section 84.82, Subdivision 3, is amended to <br />read: <br /> <br /> Subd. 3. FEES FOR REGISTRATION. (a)The fee for registration of each snow- <br />mobile, other than those registered by a dealer or manufacturer pursuant to clauses <br />(b) or (c) of this subdivision, shall be as follows: $12 for three years and $2 <br />for a duplicate or transfer. <br /> <br /> (b) The total registration fee 'for all snowmobiles owned by a dealer and <br />operated for demonstration or testing purposes shall be $37.50 per year. <br /> <br /> (c) The total registration fee for all snowmobiles owned by a manufacturer <br />and operated for research, testing, experimentation, or demonstration purposes - <br />shall be $150 per year. Dealer and manufacturer registrations are not transferable. <br /> <br /> Sec. 4. Minnesota Statutes 1969, Section 84.82, S~division 6, is amended to <br />read: <br /> <br /> Subd. 6. EXEMPTIONS. No registration hereunder shall be required for the <br />following described snowmobiles: ' <br /> <br /> (a) Snowmobiles owned and used by the United States, another state, or a <br />political subdivision thereof. <br /> <br /> (b) Snowmobiles registeped in a country other than the United States <br />temporaPily used within this state. <br /> <br /> (c) Snowmobiles covered by a valid license of another state and which have <br />not been within this state for more than 30 C~nsecutive days. <br /> <br /> <br />
