Case # 2

SUNFISH COMMONS SIGN PLAN UPDATE

By: Sean M. Sullivan, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

The Ramsey EDA discussed the Sunfish Lake Boulevard construction project and the potential
impacts of the installation of the median. Staff was directed to work with area businesses to
identify actions that could be taken to help mitigate the pending impacts of the construction. At
the February 14, 2008 meeting the Gaughan Companies presented a plan to build new, and
enhance existing, signage to help mitigate the potential impacts of the median. At the March 20,
2008 EDA meeting, a motion was approved stating that the EDA would participate up to a 50%
level of the entire sign package in an amount not to exceed $14,680, which focuses on the
directional signage portion of the entire package to help mitigate the potential effects of hard
channelization of Sunfish Lake Boulevard. In the discussion leading up to the motion the land
the Gaughan Companies agreed to better enforce the temporary signs on the premises and
enforce the leases to the "T".

Observations:

To date only the DOT directional and V-turn signs have been installed for the project. The
original LED Message Display has been removed and installation of the new, full color, 24
square foot sign will be complete by April 10, 2009 The proposal set forth by the Gaughan
Companies in 2008 included five signs, which included entry point monument signage on
Sunfish Lake Blvd and Hwy 10. Discussions between Gaughan Companies and the owner and
tenant of the Sunfish Commons site have been unproductive and may delay the installation of the
sign off of Sunfish Lake Blvd. Dan Hebert from the Gaughan Companies will be present to
update the EDA on the status of this project.

Funding Source: EDA Budget

Staff Recommendation:

None.

EDA Action:

Based on Discussion.

EDA: 4.09.09

19
