Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that Staff retained a good segment of the
information from the prior year, which focused on water conservation, and could be used again
this year. He advised that the event would be held on Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. He advised that the Environmental Expo and tree sale would be held in conjunction with
the first ever Business Expo, which should provide an opportunity for cross promotion and
additional marketing efforts for the events. He advised that the events are already being
advertised in utility bill inserts; the City newsletter, for both last month and the next month's
issue; the Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce's newsletter; and hopefully a flyer to be sent
home with students at Ramsey Elementary School.

Chairperson McDilda thought that the flyer for the school should be coordinated with the poster
contest information.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that the City would also be advertising the event
throughout the City on large black signs with neon lettering. He stated that staff was also
exploring a large banner, that would hang on the parking ramp toward Highway 10.

Chairperson McDilda thought that there was an old Arbor Day banner that could be used.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that the lettering on the existing sign would be too
small to be seen clearly from Highway 10. He explained that staff was doing everything possible
to advertise for the event, as attendance had been low the prior year. He advised that it might be
a possibility to have one of the Ramsey Star Express buses transfer residents from one Expo to
the other, which would limit the need for families to pack into their cars for the couple blocks
between the two events while also promoting the bus service.

Chairperson McDilda questioned if there was advertising available on the busses, as the City
could advertise for the event inside the bus to riders.

Board Member Bentz questioned why the Fountains of Ramsey was not used.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson advised that that site was considered and preferred but had
already been booked for a wedding. He advised that the following vendors had confirmed their
attendance: Ace Solid Waste, Connexus Energy, Lower Rum River Water Management
Organization, Simply Neutral, MN Master Naturalists, Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve,
and the University of Minnesota Raptor Center. He explained that the Raptor Center would be
present this year from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and would be setup similar to the prior year, where
they are available for question and answer rather than giving a presentation. He advised that he
was not having much luck getting a response from the Minnesota Bee Lab; and thought it
unlikely that the Conservation District would attend as their tree sale is going to be held that
same day. He advised that Prairie Restoration Inc was checking to determine if they had
available staff for the event. He explained that he was working with Dave Hanson from the U of
MN to obtain the Tree House of Horrors again this year. He stated that an invite had been given
to Oliver Kelly Farm, Econar, and a few other vendors. He explained that in regard to the tree
sale, the City had partnered with three local nurseries to conduct the preorder tree sale. He
advised that Green Valley Greenhouse, Maple Leaf Landscaping, and Hostas and More would all
be a part of the event this year. He explained that it would also allow the vendors to accumulate
sales prior to the event and gauge what additional materials would be needed for the day of the
event. He advised that this setup also allowed for a larger selection of trees to be used this year,
Environmental Policy Board / March 2, 2009
Page 2 of9
