<br />2.5 Revh!Jw of Crash Data <br /> <br />Crash data were reviewed in an effort to determine whether the statutory speed limit <br />impacted pedestrian safety. The TaskForce made the following observations based on the <br />2006 data, the most recent year for which data were available: <br /> <br />. tn !vlinnesota .in 2006, 494 fatalities were recorded on all categories of roadways, 38 <br />ofwmch involved pedestrians. <br />. Most of the pedestrian conflicts and fatalities occurred in Minnesota on collectors <br />and arterial r.oadways. <br />. In Minnespta in 2006, 9 pedestrian fatalities occurred on roads with a 30 IY1PH <br />speed.limit. <br /> <br />Togetafurther picture of"ehicle~pedestrian crash incidence, the Task Force also looked at <br />Iowa. and Wisconsin, two neighboring states with good data available. Both of these states <br />have a 25MPH.. speedHn;itonl'esidential roadways, in contrast with Minnesota's 30 (for <br />the entire Urban District). <br /> <br />Table 2-3 summarizes the five-year (2002-2006) pedestrian fatality and injury crash history <br />for Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
