<br />Had I been able to attend tonight's meeting this is what I would have <br /> <br />said. It seems to me that tonight's discussion of the wetland buffer ordinance <br /> <br />is not about whose science is right or whether it is good or bad policy. It is <br /> <br />about process. <br /> <br />The insults and lack of civility in this debate are reminiscent of the <br /> <br />"old Ramsey" right down to comments in the local paper insulting the <br /> <br />Mayor's intelligence..I suspect tonight's hearing will be no different. While <br /> <br />we had no illusions such conflicts would end-for as James Madison wrote <br /> <br />important issues will always inflame passions-- those of us who formed <br /> <br />^ <br /> <br />Ramsey Three had hoped to create a process that would be respectful of all <br /> <br />citizens and all views. <br /> <br />Last year members of this community, including several members of <br /> <br />the present council and Planning Commission, spent six months drafting a <br /> <br />vision statement and guiding values that in December the Planning <br /> <br />Commission and Council agreed should serve as the center of the new <br /> <br />comprehensive plan. <br />
