<br />City of Ramsey Driver's License Verification Policy <br /> <br />This policy applies to all employees who operate city-owned or personal vehicles to conduct city <br />business. <br /> <br />The city expects all employees who are required to drive as part of their job or who occasionally <br />drive to do so safely and legally and to maintain a good driving record. The intent of this policy <br />is to provide clear expectations rand clear consequences for failure to adhere to this policy. <br /> <br />Annual Driver's License Verification <br /> <br />Annually, the city will require proof of a valid driver's license from employees who drive <br />vehicles for city business and proof of insurance for those driving personal vehicles for city <br />business. <br /> <br />To protect the city and employees from exposure,~periodic checks will be conducted on the <br />driver's licenses of all employees who operate vehicles for city business. These checks shall be <br />performed at the time of hire to a position requiring the use of a vehicle and annually thereafter <br />for all employees who drive vehicles or equipment for city business. The driver's license status <br />shall be checked to verify that the employee's driver's license is valid and properly endorsed or <br />classified to operate the required vehicle or equipment. The driver's license status shall be <br />reviewed and maintained by Human Resources. <br /> <br />Every employee who drives for city business shall notify the department head and human <br />resources manager whenever his or her driver's license is cancelled, suspended or revoked for <br />any reason. Such notification shall be made before the employee's next work shift. <br /> <br />No employee is allowed to operate a city vehicle or operate a personal vehicle for city business <br />without a valid driver's license, and auto insurance, as applicable. <br /> <br />Loss of Driver's License <br /> <br />Any employee who drives a vehicle for city business and his/her driver's license is cancelled, <br />suspended or revoked, is required to notify the department head and human resources manager <br />on the first work day after any temporary, pending, or permanent action is taken against the <br />employee's drivers license. The employee must keep the department head and human resources <br />manager informed of any changes thereafter. If the employee fails to notify the department head <br />and human resources manager that their driver's license is revoked, cancelled or suspended, <br />discipline may be imposed. <br /> <br />1. Where driving is an occasional function of the employee's job and the employee loses <br />his/her driver's license and cannot obtain a work permit, the employee may not drive for <br />city business until driving privileges have been restored. <br /> <br />2. Where driving is an essential function of the employee's job and the employee loses <br />hislher driver's license the employee cannot drive for city business and the employee will <br />be placed on unpaid administrative leave. <br />
