<br />Mayor Ramsey stated that he thought there was an interested party that was going to move into <br />the space and fix it up. <br /> <br />Councilmember Wise stated that he spoke to that person and they were not interested in the <br />building. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he. supports tearing this down and asked if Public Works could <br />do the work in-house. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson stated that they have done demolition for residential, but not <br />commercial. He stated that there would be a waste hauler licensing issue to deal with. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he would like to see if the City could earn extra revenue on this <br />by demolishing it ourselves, if it is an option. <br /> <br />Councilmember Look asked how much it costs the City to own this property right now. <br /> <br />Deputy City Administrator Nelson stated that the City pays $400 a month to market this <br />property, but there really are no other ownership costs right now. <br /> <br />Councilmember Look stated that he doesn't see a valid argument to tear the building down at this <br />point, but does suggest that the City stop paying the monthly fee to market the property. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey asked about costs to shut down the water and noted that the City still has to <br />police the property. . <br /> <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan noted that the water has been turned off, but the <br />electricity is still hooked up, which does carry a cost. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he would support pursuing demolition. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey, to direct staff to gather <br />quotes for the demolition of the building located at 6101 Highway # 1 0 NW and authorize <br />demolition. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Councilmember Look stated that he has a concern that the City is creating <br />the appearance of a ghost town. He stated that the City should try to educate people that when <br />these buildings come down, it is in preparation for the proposed freeway project. <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he feels that informing the public that this is an improvement is <br />a great idea. There was discussion of the possible demolition costs. <br /> <br />Amended motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey, to direct staff <br />to gather quotes for the demolition of the building located at 6101 Highway # 10 NW and <br />authorize demolition at a cost not to exceed $10,000 without further Council authorization. <br /> <br />City Council I August 11, 2009 <br />Page 7 of 11 <br />
