Anoka-Hennepin School District

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

MEMO

Date: March 30, 2009
To: Kurt Ulrich
Heidi Nelson
From: Reid Mortensen
Re: Community School Funding

I have included copies of the Community School Budget Proposal for 2009, the City of
Ramsey Community Schools Overview for 2008, and copies of youth program brochures.

I have summarized key programming and funding points below:

· Tentative .budget request for 2010 is $35,589.
· Budget portion for youth program provides for 30-35 youth programs/activities
per quarter (fall, winter, spring).
· Additional Community Education funding provides for 10-15 youth
programs/activities per quarter (fall, winter, spring).
· Ramsey Elementary open to community groups for community use with two
nights at no charge for building security costs.
· Budget portion for Teen Program Subsidy provides subsidy for teen night at
Ramsey Elementary on Fridays from September-April (minimum 12 nights),
· Budget portion for Summer Program provides for summer program at Ramsey
Elementary (six weeks/four days a week/mornings).

I have summarized impacts of funding reductions below:

· Reduction in the budget portion for youth program would reduce proportionately
the number of hours a community school programmer would work per week and
the number of youth programs/activities offered per quarter.
· Current position is held by Jill Smith who is at 40 hours per week and a 175-day
contract. Ramsey currently funds 30 hours of this position.
· This same reduction would increase the number of nights that community groups
would be charged for building security~
· Reduction in the budget portion for Teen Program Subsidy would reduce or
eliminate the number of teen nights.
· Reduction in the budget portion for the Summer Program would reduce or
eliminate the summer program.

We appreciate the opportunity to share this information with you, the collaboration we
share with the City of Ramsey and the importance we both place on community, family,
and youth programs.

discover f
COMMUNITY
EDUCATION ,
Anokll- Hennepin School District C>
2727 Ferry Street North · Anoka, MN 55.30.3 · Tel: 763.506.1260 · Fax: 763.506.1299 · TTY: 76.3.506.1292
www.anoka.k12.mn.lls/ce
