. CASE # /

CONSIDER STREET NAME CHANGE FOR 167TH AVENUE NW
By: Tim Himmer, City Engineer

Background:

The contract for the 167th Avenue realignment project was awarded on June 23,2009. Construction is
currently underway and progressing nicely, with a tentative completion date of about one (1) month.
Due to the new alignment some residents have inquired about a potential new name for the street. They
are not specifically requesting a change but only want to understand if one is being considered, and
whether they would be affected.

Observations:

In the past certain east-west collector streets have been renamed as a result of a construction project,
and it was done with much debate. Staff is proposing to leave the existing street names the same, but
to clarify the location of the street transition. We believe installing a street sign at this intersection of
Jaspar Street & 166thl16ih would clearly identify the appropriate street sections. We propose that
167th Ave. be named as such from Nowthen Blvd. to Jaspar Street, and 166th Ave. to remain as such
from Jaspar Street to the west.

Currently there is only one .resident that will require an address change (from 6951 16ih to 16701
Jaspar Street), as l6ih will no longer exist in front of their home. With staffs naming proposal all
other parcels can remain addressed as is.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends leaving the street naming system in this area as is, and installing a sign at the
intersection of Jaspar Street and l66thl16ih Avenues to demark the transition.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend to the City Council that the street naming along the 166thl16ih Avenue NW
corridor to remain unchanged.

Attachments:

Location Map
Construction Plan

Reviewed By:
Director of Public Works/Principal City Engineer

PW: 9/15/09
