Our wetlands ensure more open space. <br />3. Protect high value wetlands. <br />4. Property rights protected. <br />5. Want to feel good about the right thing to do. <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL: <br /> <br />1. Employ and educate citizens about all identified Best Management Practices in <br />addition to buffers. <br />2. Manage wetlands to enhance wetland value. <br />3. Wetlands are minimally protected by state and federal laws <br />4. Research shows property values increase on land adjacent to protected natural areas <br />5. Wetlands contribute to our "community" water supply; they need some <br />community protection <br /> <br />WATER USE ISSUES: <br /> <br />1. Plan to ensure our future surface & drinking water supply. <br /> <br />POLICY: <br /> <br />1. Remove county ditch system where viable <br />2. Easements are used often for utilities, access etc. <br />3. Empower the citizens with education (best and bad management practices) <br /> <br />EXPLORE OTHER TOOLS <br /> <br />1. Wetland banking <br />2. Mitigation credits <br />3. Review setbacks as buffers <br />4. Open space property purchase for compensation <br />5. Best management practices are options and everyone should be made aware of them <br />6. If we don't take care of it ourselves somebody else or another agency will do it for us. <br />
