Consent 1 0
CONSIDER A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
FOR BUILDING INSPECTIONS SERVICES
Background
By: Heidi A. Nelson, Deputy City Administrator/
Director of Community Development
At the September 22, 2009 City Council Work Session, staff sought policy direction from
the City Council regarding the following matters:
1. Establishment of an electrical inspection program.
2. The requirement for permits for roofing, siding, and window installation work.
3. The rental license program.
4. Contracting for building inspections services.
The City Council directed st:Iff to prepare a request for proposals (RFP) for electrical
inspections and also building inspections services. For your consideration, attached you
will find an RFP for building inspections services which will be distributed to interested
consultants with City Council authorization. A transition to contracted inspection
services will result in the lay -off of the remaining building inspector position which
would leave the building official and permit technician on staff.
An RFP for electrical inspections will be presented at a future meeting.
Funding Source
As was reported at the September 22 Work Session, if the City Council elects to contract
out for building inspections services, the city's remaining building inspector would be
laid off and the subsequent salary savings would be used to pay the building inspections
contactor.
City Council Action
Consider making a motion to authorize staff to issue the attached RFP for building
inspections services.
Attachment
RFP for building inspections services.
L .A._____0
Reviewed By
City Administrator
CC: October 13, 2009
