INTRODUCTION

At the Public Works Committee held on April 21, 2009, staff was directed to prepare this
feasibility study to indentify safety improvements which might be made in order to
consider reopening 142nd Avenue between TH 47 and Argon Street. A~ditional direction
was provided by the Public Works Committee on August 19,2009 regarding the details
of the desired improvements. This roadway was temporarily closed in March of 2009
because of cut through traffic from adjacent arterial streets fi1~ering through this
residential neighborhood, particularly 143avenue and Argon streets. Theproject area is
illustrated in Figure 1. This report will identify the existing street RQnditions along with
the proposed improvements and the associated costs. ,./!;;Jy.\'i:,;0::.".,

EXISTING CONDITIONS . . The proposed safety
improvements'woul'.. nsist of six foot wide sidewalks on both sides of Dysprosium
Street from Bunker take Blvd to 143rd Avenue.

Two options are to be considered for the alteration ofthe Dysprosium road way. Option
A would consist of two 11 foot travel lanes and two 8 foot parking lanes. Option B would
consist of two 11 foot travel lanes and an 8 foot parking lane on the west side of the
street. On the east side parking would be restricted and a two foot curb reaction distance
would be placed between the edge of the travel lane and the face of the curb. Chokers
would be placed at all intersection locations where a parking lane exists. Figure 2

2
