<br />PC# I <br /> <br />APPOINTMENT OF LIEUTENANT CHIEF POSITION <br />By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br />As the Personnel Committee may recall, in September Matt Kohner was promoted to the position of <br />Assistant Fire Chief. He had been serving as the Officer out of Fire Station #3 in Nowthen. With this <br />promotion, a there became a vacancy of an Officers position at Station #3. <br /> <br />Three firefighters submitted letters of interest to the Fire Chief. On Tuesday November 3, 2009 the two <br />Assistant Chiefs Tom Hoxter and Matt Kohnerand the Fire Chief interviewed all three candidates. <br /> <br />Using the interview and past performance, it is the Fire Chiefs recommendation that Bart Hayft be <br />appointed to the position of Lieutenant #6 to serve out of Station #3 in Nowthen. Terms for the Officer <br />appointments are typically two years. The Fire Chief has discussed the appointment with the City <br />Administrator who supports the recommendation. <br /> <br />Funding Source: <br />Funding for this position is a yearly sum of $2520. This is paid through regular Fire Department payroll <br />(Part-time Regular line item 610~) then is reimbursed by the City of Nowthen as part of the Joint Powers <br />Agreement. While in training and on calls all the Paid-on-Call Officers receive the same hourly <br />compensation as other firefighters. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br />Motion to ratify the Fire Chiefs appointment of Bart Hayft to the position of Fire Lieutenant. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br /> <br /> <br />City Administrator <br /> <br />Human Resource Manager <br />Fire Chief <br /> <br />CC: 11-10-09 <br />
