We do not have alternates. We require appointed board members to attend as part of being
appointed. Failure to attend three consecutive meeting results in their seat becoming vacant from
the appointed board -- see City of Eden. Prairie City Code, Section 2.22 Boards, Commissions
and Task Forces; Subd.4.A.4. (below)."

I haven't heard of someone being removed from a position in Eden Prairie directly under Subd.
4.A.4, and I've been here since 1992. But, most staff liaison's inform the Council during the
appointment/re-appointment process what a board member's general attendance has been during
their first term (if seeking re-appointment); and although it isn't a criteria for re-appointment, the
infmTnation is looked at by the Council. On the Commission I used to staff, the Human Rights
and Diversity Commission, about two years ago the attendance information on a board member
who had very spotty attendance factored into tl~at person not getting re-appointed. This board
member never missed three meetings in a row; but made only approximately 50% of the
scheduled meetings.

The City has ali appointments/re-appointments begin on April 1 each year, with terms expiring
on March 31 each year; with board membership comprised of staggered 3-year terms to provide
continuity.

From: Sandy King [mailto:SEKingOci.savage.rnn. us]
Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 8:t9 AM
To: Oivorma Reed
Subject: P~: [mgl boards and commissions

Givonna,
Our commissions do use alternates.
