None of the other commissions have alternates. With some of these groups, we ask them to call in advance if they cannot make it to avoid not having a quorum. They serve one year terms and vote if a regn,tlar member is absent. They do not automatically become a regular member if one resig-ns. It has worked very well. They usually attend all the meetings that they are able to, so they are familiar with ongoing issues. See the City ofEagan website, City Code, Chapter 2, Section 2.50.
