. AWARDS
John served as principal-in-charge on the following
award-winning projects:

Burnsville Heart of the City - This bold departure from suburban
development patterns builds upon neo-traditional principles to
transform a tired commercial strip into the 200-acre Heart of the
City town center. John's team prepared a Design Framework
Manual to define streetscape, architectural and site planning
gUidelines based on a hierarchy of street types, as well as zoning
ordinance language to support the design framework. Winner of
2002 Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association
Award for Outstanding ProjectjProgramjTool.

St. Cloud Downtown - The downtown plan was developed over
an aggressive six-month period utilizing a process that included
goal setting, developing alternatives during a week-long on-site
workshop, and refining the recommended plan. The plan's
concept was to tie together the many parts of downtown St.
Cloud and the tremendous investment that had taken place during
the previous 10 years. The plan's primary focus was to integrate
two unique public spaces through a grid of appropriately-scaled
public streets for safe, pleasant vehicular and pedestrian
movement. The plan would "tie" the investment together and
result in an interesting and attractive downtown setting. This
project was the winner of a 1996 MASLA Honor Award.

:It Bonestroo
