Project
Profile

Project Type
Master Planning
IVunneapolis, 11inn.

Clients
The Green Institute
The Minneapolis Foundation

www.LHBcorp.com

Bassett Creek Valley Eco-Industrial Plan

In March 2000, the City of Minneapolis approved the Basset Creek Valley master
plan which called for the conversion of a significant amount of industrial
property to residential and recreational uses. Concern for the loss of inner-city
jobs that would consequently be relocated led The Green Institute and
Minneapolis Foundation to fund a new master plan.

LHB, in partnership with Trillium Planning and Development and The Green
Institute, coordinated an eco-industrial master planning process with the goal of
enhancing existing business performance. With smaller ecological footprints,
these industries can remain and continue to provide valuable job opportunities in
Basset Creek Valley.

Design features of the eco-industrial plain include:

· A multi-level manufacturing center to in1prove business efficiencies
· A warehouse and distribution center with showrooms and incubator space
· Mixed-use buildings witl1 housing and offices above multi-level parking
· An expanded Bryn Mawr Meadows and relocated farmer's market in place of
the auto impound lot and concrete crushing yard.
