"The primary objective of the Environmental Policy Board is to review,
consider, initiate and recommend to the City Council such policies, plans or projects which will
enhance and preserve the natural environment of the City. The Board's scope shall include, but
not necessarily be limited to, matters of the preservation of the community forest, water quality,
wetland preservation, ground water protection, control of soil erosion and air, noise and light
pollution."

Other potential topics that the Board may wish to consider could be storm water outreach and
education, backyard composting best management practices (BMPs), and implementing a" rain
gutter requirement on all new buildings (deterring soil erosion).

Recommendation

The Board should be prepared to consider and discuss possible topics/projects for inclusion in the
2010 EPB work plan. Staff will then compile a proposed 2010 work plan for consideration at the
January meeting. Ultimately, the work plan will be presented to City Council for consideration.

EPB Action

Based on discussion.

EPB: 12/7/09
