POLICY BOARD BUSINESS

Case #1:

Preview of Water Conservation Tool Box

Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.

The Board agreed that actual links should not be included within the various sections, rather,
hyperlinks embedded within a word or phrase should be used (links than hidden).

Board Member Hassett stated that it will be important to reference the Ramsey Rules section
when the new topsoil section, talking just about the importance and benefits of topsoil, is drafted.
He went on to state that any time within this web site there is discussion of a certain topic or
concept, such as topsoil, watering, irrigation systems, burning, etc., there should be a link to the
Ramsey Rules section so that readers can easily see what the specific regulations in Ramsey are.

Board Member Enstrom suggested that in the Top 10 Lists, under Outdoors, the second sentence
under rain barrels be revised to state: "Plants love rain water because it is oxygenated and does
not contain chlorine". Also, in the Growing Grass section, under Preparing the Soil he stated
that it should reference a fertilizer with some phosphorous.

Board Member Hassett suggested rewording the paragraph somewhat. The Board discussed
several variations.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he would try and capture the discussion and
draft a paragraph.

Board Member Bentz suggested that in Ramsey Rules, Current Watering Restrictions, in the first
sentence, affect should be changed to effect.

Board Member Bentz suggested that in Growing Grass, Planting, when discussing mulching, it.
should be clarified to read as: "Mulching, with rye straw, grass seed after. .."

Board Member Bentz suggested that in Irrigation, Water Applicators, Drip (trickle) irrigation,
second sentence, last word, drips should be changed to drops.

Board Member Bentz suggested that acronyms such as EP A and SWAT should be spelled out
the first time they appear, which is under EPA Water Sense Program. EPA is Environmental
Protection Agency and SWAT is Smart Water Application Technology.

The Board discussed identifying specific dates in the Planting section or whether it would be
better to use general terms such as the end of May and end of September.

Board Member Enstrom stated that he included specific dates because it is relevant in terms of
available sunlight to ensure proper germination, but would not object to using general terms.

Consensus of the Board was to remove the specific dates and just refer to the end of May, mid
August and the end of September.

Environmental Policy Board / November 2,2009
Page 2 of 4
