<br />CASE#: 'l.of <br /> <br />CONSIDER A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE <br />"POLICY FOR APPOINTING BOARD AND COMMISSION MEMBERS" <br /> <br />By: Givonna Reed Kone, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />At the January 11,2010 Personnel Committee meeting, staff was directed to draft a <br />resolution recommending the following changes to the Policy for Appointing Board and <br />Commission Members: <br /> <br />1. Ads for vacancies will be published in the Ramsey Resident twice to give <br />residents maximum response time (e.g., Nov/Dec and lan/Feb). <br /> <br />2. In 2009, the Policy for Appointing Board and Commission Members was <br />amended to indicate the following: Applicants will be interviewed by the full City <br />Council and the City Council will consult with the chair and vice chair of each <br />board or commission regarding appointments; however, the final decision <br />regarding appointments will rest with the City Council. <br /> <br />At the January 11,2010 Personnel Committee meeting there was discussion about <br />the value of input from Commission chairs regarding applications for <br />reappointment. It was the recommendation of the Personnel Committee to amend <br />the Policy for Appointing Board and Commission Members to solicit written <br />input from Commission chairs regarding reappointing commissioners. Staff <br />offers the following language as an amendment to the Policy: The chair of each <br />board or commission for which appointments are being considered will be advised <br />of the interview date and time and invited to submit written comments to the City <br />Council and make a recommendation regarding reappointment. The form for <br />written comments will be provided by the city. The final decision regarding <br />appointments will rest with the City Council. <br /> <br />Funding Source <br /> <br />There are no costs associated with the proposed policy changes. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the Personnel Committee make a motion recommending that the <br />City Council approve the following changes to the Policy for Appointing Board and <br />Commission Members: <br />
