Lastly, we understand the City is also considering raising the bus fare on Route 856 from the current one-
way cash fare of $3.00. The City could increase the fare in $0.25 increments. However, the Council is
evaluating a regional "long-distance" express bus fare that would be higher than $3.00. If and when the
Council proceeds with a higher long-distance express fare, Route 856 would be required to use this fare,
if it continues to use the regional fare collection system.
We hope this information is helpful. We understand that these funding and ridership issues are confusing
and complex, and we are always willing to meet with you to discuss these matters in greater detail. In
fact, if the City would like to sponsor a workshop on these items, we would be happy to attend and have a
more thorough discussion. And finally, we want to assure the City that when ridership estimates justify
the capital and operational costs of an additional station, the Council will work with you to make the
Ramsey rail station a reality.
Sincer 1
Tom Weaver, Regional Administrator
Natah Steffen, Councilmember
