If a qualified consultant <br />is not available, then MHP staff may be able to provide direct <br />technical assistance. MHP can also help CHDOs (Community <br /> Development Organizations), HOME recipients and <br />~P (Supportive Housin9 ProJect) grantees through technical <br />assistance funding from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban <br />Development (H U D). <br /> <br />Organizational Development <br /> Investments <br /> <br />Organizational Improvement Grants: <br />(Max $3000, 1:1 match required) These grants are made to a <br />grantee for a specific organizational improvement, such as a <br /> <br />strategic plan, board training, financial system upgrade, and <br />business planning. Funds may be used to attend a training or <br />hire a consultant to upgrade the skills of staff or board, <br />increasing their capacity to perform housing-related functions. <br />Nonprofits, local governments, HR, As, and tribal organizations <br />in Greater Minnesota with some development and/or asset <br />management experience are eligible. <br /> <br />Training and Scholarships: <br />This statewide program is intended to build the competency <br />of nonprofits and local government staff in asset management, <br />NIMBY-response, real-estate development, federal regulation <br />requirements, financial management, fair housing issues, <br />supportive housing, and other affordable housing topics. <br /> <br />Americorps*VISTA Program: <br />MHP administers this project on behalf of the Corporation for <br />National and Community Service. The program supports a <br />statewide network of Volunteers in Service to America working <br />on affordable housing issues. VISTA members receive a modest <br />stipend paid by MHP and other benefits in exchange for a year <br />of service. For more information on MHP§ Americorp*VlSTA <br />program, visit www, mhpvista.org, or to read more about <br />a recent VISTA activity, see page 17. <br /> <br />Direct Service <br /> <br />Crisis Housing Program <br />This statewide program assists Iow- and moderate-income <br />individuals who need short-term, in-patient psychiatric <br />treatment.
