POLICY BOARD BUSINESS

Case #1:

2010 Work Plan

Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.

Board Member Freeburg stated that he thought that storm water education and outreach should
be revised to state storm water management education and outreach.

Chairperson Max stated that he believed the Board should add another item to the work plan as
follows: complete water conservation tool box.

Motion by Board Member Riley-Daniels and seconded by Board Member Freeburg to approve
the 2010 work plan as amended and forward it to City Council for consideration.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Max, Board Members Riley-Daniels, Stodola, Hassett
Freeburg and Bentz. Voting No: None. Absent: Enstrom.

Case #2:

2010 Environmental Expo

Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.

Board Member Riley-Daniels stated that she thought it would be good to have someone to speak
about attracting birds in the backyard, plantings to attract birds, and geothermal energy.

Board Member Bentz stated that he potentially has a contact at Toro and could check with them
to see about the availability of someone to speak at the expo about water management and
conservation through various irrigation systems and techniques.

Board Member Hassett inquired about the ability to access a dedicated phone line for the EPB to
receive calls concerning expo inquiries.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he did not think that was a possibility but that
members could direct folks to his phone number if they were interested or were looking for
additional information.

Board Member Hassett asked why the Environmental Expo and Business Expo were not just
combined into one large event.

Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the purpose of holding the two events on the
same day and in close proximity to another is to capitalize on the cost savings on joint marketing
and promotion of the two events. Other than that, the two events are really quite different and
intend to achieve different outcomes. The Environmental Expo is intended to be an educational
event to promote awareness about natural resources and conservation while the Business Expo is
intended to promote and introduce local businesses to the community.

Environmental Policy Board / January 4, 2010
Page 2 of 4
