ELECTION OF OFFICERS Motion by Councilmember Dehen, seconded by Councilmember McGlone, to elect Councilmember Elvig as Chairperson of the Public Works Committee for 2010. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Elvig and Councilmembers Dehen and McGlone. Voting No: None. Motion by Chairperson Elvig, seconded by Councilmember McGlone, to elect Councilmember Dehen as Vice - Chairperson for the Public Works Committee for 2010. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Elvig and Councilmembers McGlone and Dehen. Voting No: None. COMMITTEE BUSINESS Case #1: Consider Request for Sidewalk Installation Along 150 Lane NW City Engineer Himmer reviewed the staff report. Councilmember Dehen stated there were a lot more areas along busier roads than this one that should have sidewalks. He asked what the pressing issue was. Chairperson Elvig responded this was a dangerous area with narrow roads and parking did not allow students to get into their cars safely. He noted this was part of a bigger problem. Councilmember McGlone stated this was a narrow street and it had a lot of traffic volume. He believed this area was a high priority area. Councilmember Dehen stated he did not object to this proposal if it was a priority area and a safety issue. Councilmember McGlone inquired as to where the funding would come from. City Engineer Himmer responded it would come from the Public Improvement Revolving Fund. Chairperson Elvig expressed concern about stacking of vehicles and he believed this caused the problems also. He believed parking should be restricted on one side. Chairperson Elvig requested staff research further funding sources. Councilmember Dehen noted the parking lot issue still needed to be resolved also. Motion by Councilmember McGlone, seconded by Councilmember Dehen, to recommend that the City Council investigate the option for installation of a sidewalk along the north side of 150 Public Works Committee / January 19, 2010 Page 2 of 5
