Some of the major accomplishments in 2009 included work such as: <br />• Completion of the Trunk Highway 10 Interchange design <br />• Acquisition of Bury and Carlson property for a permanent Public Works facility <br />• Ramsey Star Express Service ridership maintained through the startup of Northstar rail <br />• Construction and safety improvements on 167 Avenue NW west of Nowthen Boulevard <br />• Completion of Garnet Street watermain interconnection project and Alpine Park parking lot <br />• Completion of preliminary design of Ramsey rail station with Anoka County Regional Rail <br />Authority (ACRRA) <br />• Initiation and startup of Water Tower No. 3 construction project <br />• Completion of the Mississippi River outflow project for Ramsey Town Center <br />Streets <br />The Street Department staff includes a Public Works Streets Supervisor, four Public Works Maintenance <br />Workers, a Heavy Equipment Operator, and a Public Works Mechanic. Most years, seasonal employees <br />are also utilized during high demand times of the year. <br />Major areas of responsibilities include the ongoing maintenance of the City's streets and right of ways. <br />This includes snow and ice control, patching, semi - annual sweeping and roadside mowing /brush control. <br />The department is also responsible for storm water maintenance, street signs, and building maintenance <br />at the Public Works campus and overall equipment maintenance for the entire Public Works <br />Department. <br />Last year, the Street Department continued paving trails in house. Major accomplishments include the <br />completion of a trail on the east side of Nowthen Boulevard between Sunwood Drive and Lord of Life <br />church as well as constructing an important segment on the east side of Sunfish Lake Boulevard <br />between Sunwood Drive and Fox Knoll. <br />The City's street system includes 168 miles of paved local and collector roads, 4.4 miles of dirt roads, <br />0.78 miles of concrete streets, and 35.9 miles of State and County controlled paved arterial highway <br />corridors. <br />The storm sewer utility system consists of pipes, ponds, and ditches that handle the runoff created by <br />new and existing developments as well as our roadway system. Storm sewer maintenance is an ongoing <br />process. Much of our efforts, at the present time, are reacting to problem areas as they appear and <br />then working with engineering to implement long -term solutions to resolve these problems. <br />Some of the accomplishments in 2009 included storm sewer work such as: <br />• Drainage correction at the intersection of 152 Jaspar <br />• Correct erosion and solve drainage issue at 174th Sodium <br />• Waco Street flooding correction <br />• Kangaroo Street erosion corrected <br />Parks <br />Parks personnel include a Parks Supervisor, Parks Lead Person, and four Public Works Maintenance <br />Workers.
