It is the intent of the City of Ramsey to provide comfortable, efficient, and <br />professional workspaces for all employees. It must be understood, though, that <br />the Ramsey Municipal Center is a public building and accessible by citizens <br />and others from outside of the City Staff. <br />a. Minimal decorations, pictures, art, accessories and items of a personal <br />nature may be placed in individual offices and work areas so long as <br />they are not offensive to basic community standards and provide a <br />positive work environment that would also be accepted by the <br />mainstream of public visitors. <br />b. Employees working in work areas located in the front of the office or <br />reception areas should take additional care to maintain a clean desk <br />condition, free of personal items, storage paper piles, files, food items, <br />etc. This is to ensure a neat, professional appearance in these front <br />office areas. <br />c. Prior to decorating their individual offices or workspaces, employees <br />must get prior approval of the items from their supervisor. <br />2. Decorations or accessories requiring mounting or drilling into walls, work <br />surfaces, partitions, etc. must be completed by City maintenance staff unless <br />otherwise approved by the supervisor designated responsible for the area. Tape, <br />tacks, pins, or like materials should never be used on any wall surfaces. <br />3. Personally owned coffee makers, refrigerators, microwave ovens, heaters, <br />televisions, furniture and exercise equipment are prohibited from the facility unless <br />otherwise approved by the City Administrator. Radios and personal listening <br />devices may be used so long as the volume does not disturb the work of <br />surrounding employees or the content is not found to be offensive for a public <br />facility. <br />G. Expectation of Privacy-The Ramsey Municipal Center is a public building <br />and the property of the City of Ramsey. The offices, work spaces, lockers, vehicles, <br />computers, telephones and electronic systems are provided to employees for their use in <br />their respective work capacities and in that capacity alone, and no expectation of privacy <br />is extended or implied. <br />H. It is the intent of this policy to keep the Ramsey Municipal Center in a clean and <br />welcoming environment and violation may cause deterioration of the property and may <br />be subject to disciplinary action. <br />
