<br />CQE PREPROPOSAL APPLlCA TION <br />Council on Quality Education <br /> <br />A. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Anoka-Hennepin School District No. 11, through the <br />Anopin Project, will attempt to address the following problems: <br /> <br />1. The need to change a societal attitude to: <br /> <br />a. reduce consumption <br />b. reuse resources <br />c. recycling when possible <br /> <br />2. The need to coordinate the efforts of all participants. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Anopin Project will involve people of all ages throughout the 13 cities, 35 <br />schools, 3,000 employees, and over 100 Businesses within the geographic boundaries of <br />Anoka-Hennepin School District No. 11. <br /> <br />The two basic aims of the Anopin Project are to: <br /> <br />1. Educate the total community, including students, and staff on the concepts of <br />conserving energy, reducing consumption, reusing our resources, and recycling. <br /> <br />2. Provide cOflv~nient recyeling centers for paper, glass, aluminum, and steel. <br /> <br />B. MAJOR OBJECTIVES: <br /> <br />1. Educate the entire community and in-service school district staff on the scope, <br />issues, and needs for recycling and energy conservation. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Procedures: Through slide/tape presentations, seminars, workshops, promotional <br />materials, posters, pamphlets, etc. <br /> <br />2. Develop curriculum materials that will enlighten students on the concepts of <br />recycling and resource recovery. <br /> <br />Procedure: A committee of teachers and parents will develop curriculum <br />materials to be implemented into the basic instruction and subject matters of <br />the K-12 program. <br /> <br />3. Establish convenient recycling centers for paper, glass, aluminum, and steeL <br /> <br />Procedure: Set up eight recycling sites at elementary and secondary schools the <br />first year and an additional eight by the third year. <br /> <br />4. Reduce significantly the amount of solid waste (paper,glass, aluminum, steel) <br />that is being discarded and wasted in landfills. <br /> <br />Procedure: Students and community members will be able to conveniently <br />deposit paper, glass, aluminum, and steel at each of the recycling sites located <br />throughout the 13 communities within the school district. <br /> <br />5. Bring together the state, county, and municipal governments, along with <br />organizations (scouts, churches, 4-H, etc.), in a ~ooperative effort with the <br />school district to carry out the objectives of the Anopin Project. <br /> <br />1 of 2 <br />
