POLICY BOARD BUSINESS
Prior to discussing case #1, Chairperson Max asked for clarification about forming a working
group to accomplish certain tasks such as editing documents so that a project like the water
conservation toolbox does not get dragged out so long.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that there were a couple options the Board could
consider. First, the Board may wish to consider limiting the number of members that would be
responsible for editing/reviewing the documents. The second option would be to appoint a
subcommittee of no more than three (3) members that would be responsible for completing a
specific task, in this case, review and editing. The subcommittee could than report to the Board
at the next regularly scheduled meeting for approval by the Board as a whole. The Board then
would only be involved in edits if there were inaccurate or incorrect information or major
grammatical errors found within a document.
Case #1: 2010 Work Plan
Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.
A brief discussion ensued about the work plan and the City Council Work Session discussion.
Board Member Bentz inquired if Staff had started on the Emerald Ash Borer Preparedness Plan.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he had not yet started on that.
Case #2: Invasive Species Education/Web Page
Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report and previewed the layout of the
invasive species webpage for the Board. He stated that as was discussed at the February
meeting, there is a brief introduction about invasive species, and then a list with both a photo and
name of invasive species known to exist in Ramsey
Board Member Enstrom stated that he believes an entire category of plants was omitted, that
being aquatic species invading wetlands and lakes.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the list does include Reed Canary Grass and
Purple Loosestrife, both being aquatic plants. He also stated that from his review of the MN
DNR's Infested Waters list, he did not find any lake or wetland in Ramsey that was confirmed to
have Eurasian water milfoil.
Board Member Enstrom stated that both Eddy Lake and Rogers Lake are infested with Eurasian
water milfoil
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he was not opposed to including Eurasian water
milfoil on the list, especially since it is so common throughout the metro area.
Chairperson Max asked if this webpage should also include invasive insects and pathogens.
Environmental Policy Board / March 1, 2010
Page 2 of 5
