Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he raised that question at the February meeting
but that it is his opinion that the webpage for the time being should move forward with just the
plants. He also stated that if someone was looking for information about oak wilt for instance,
he didn't think it would be intuitive to go to the invasive species page; most people would be
looking for tree diseases or just oak wilt in general.
Chairperson Max suggested that the plants be placed into categories such as trees, shrubs,
herbaceous plants and aquatics.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson reviewed with the Board what their direction was
including expanding the introduction briefly, adding contact info for the public if they had
additional questions or thought they may have an invasive species on their property, creating
categories to place the various plants in like trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and aquatics, and
adding a couple species including Eurasian water milfoil and creeping charlie.
The Board agreed that was correct.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he would incorporate these changes and bring
back the webpage layout at the next meeting for review.
Case #3: 2010 Environmental Expo
Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.
Chairperson Max suggested that the Ramsey Seniors may be an option for offering concessions
during the event. He stated that about 10 or so years ago, they used to sell coffee and donuts at
the event.
Board Member Riley Daniels stated that 4 -H might be another option.
Chairperson Max stated that he did check with Carroll Henderson about possibly speaking at the
expo event. He unfortunately is booked that weekend but did suggest checking with Welby
Smith, author of the recently published book "Trees and Shrubs of Minnesota ", about his
possible availability.
Chairperson Max stated that he would try contacting Mr. Smith about his availability for the
expo.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that one topic that maybe would attract people
would be Emerald Ash Borer now that it has been confirmed in two locales in the metro area.
Chairperson Max suggested Val Cervanka as a possible option for that topic and offered to make
that contact as well.
Board Member Hassett suggested having an expert in to talk about all the various energy saving
and alternative energy options that homeowners have now and also to educate people about the
tax credits that are available for some of these improvements.
Environmental Policy Board / March 1, 2010
Page 3 of 5
