CC CASE # 5 10
AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY FOR A COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP GRANT
THROUGH CENTERPOINT ENERGY
By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief
Background:
For the past several years Ramsey's natural gas supplier, CenterPoint Energy, has offered
Community Partnership Grants to cities for the purchase of safety equipment. In 2008
Ramsey received the maximum of $2500 to assist in the purchase of replacement
extrication equipment for the Fire Department. In another year the grant was used to
assist in purchasing additional firefighter pagers.
Priority is given to cities who have not received a grant the prior year. With council's
authorization, staff will submit an application for equipment for the Fire or Police dept
for safety related equipment. The grants are a matching grant, meaning the depts. budget
must have a matching dollar amount to put towards the purchase.
Applications must be received by April 16 and staff has not had the opportunity to
finalize the equipment to be purchased.
A copy of the 2010 guidelines is attached.
Funding:
The cities portion of the purchase will be made from the operational budget in place for
2010. No additional funding is being requested.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends to Council to motion to authorize applying for a Community
Partnership Grant in the amount not to exceed $2500 or a total purchase not to exceed
$5000.
Council Action:
Motion to accept/reject Fire Chiefs recommendation.
Reviewed By:
City Administrator
Police Chief
Finance Director
CC: 04/13/2010
