The reconstructed roadway would consist of two 12 foot travel lanes with an 8 foot
parking lane on the west side of the street. On the east side parking would be restricted
and a two foot curb buffer distance would be placed between the edge of the travel lane
and the face of the curb. Figure 2 illustrates both the existing street profile and the
proposed reconstructed street sections.
The street project would begin just south of 140th Avenue which is the point at which
new pavement from the Bunker Lake Blvd project terminates. The width of the pavement
would taper at both ends of the project until reaching the 34 foot wide section illustrated
in figure 2.
Curb chokers will be placed on the west side of the street at all intersections north of
140th Avenue. Chokers narrow down the street width by extending the curb into the
parking lane. The narrower street width tends to slow traffic speed and contributes to
increased pedestrian safety by reducing the crossing distance. Approximately 60 on-street
parking spaces would remain along the west side of the street after allowing for driveway
cuts and chokers. Boulevard trees would be installed on both sides of the street at 35 foot
intervals and street lights would be placed at each of the six intersections. In addition one
light would be placed mid block between 140th Avenue and 141st Lane and two more
between 143`d Avenue and CSAH 5. This light spacing would provide uniform lighting
along the entire length of Dysprosium Street.
Existing catch basins shall be relocated to accommodate the narrowed width of the street.
In addition, storm sewer will be extended approximately 400 feet south of the catch
basins located south of 141St Ave as is illustrated in Figure 3. This area has a flat grade
and the additional drainage will extend pavement durability. This drainage modification
will require street grade changes will allow steep driveways in this area to be flattened.
This project will reconnect each existing driveway opening to the newly paved street.
Five common driveways serve ten single family lots on the west side of Dysprosium
between 142nd Circle and 143~d Avenue. These property owners will be contacted and
given the option of having a individual driveway installed to their property. Both
property owners of the common driveway must agree to being assessed the additional
cost of driveway reconstruction beyond the sidewalk. The driveway approaches
between the street curb and sidewalk shall be replaced with concrete at a standard width
of 25 feet. The driveway pavement beyond the sidewalk shall be neatly sawed and
replaced with the same paving material. The width shall be tapered to match smoothly
into the existing driveway. Restoration shall include the protection or repair of any
irrigation systems or invisible fence. Mail boxes may be relocated to accommodate
construction but shall be returned to their original locations upon termination of the
project. Disturbed turf areas shall be restored with topsoil and sod.
ESTIMATED COSTS
Page 3
