CASE #! . o a PUBLIC HEARING: ADOPT ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 4, SECTION 4.1.1 OF THE RAMSEY CITY CHARTER -PRIMARY ELECTIONS (DATE CHANGE) By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk Background: On April 13, 2010, City Council introduced an ordinance to amend Chapter 4, Section 4.1.1 of the Ramsey City Charter -Primary Elections. This amendment was necessitated by a change in the date of the State Primary Election. As per Minnesota State Statutes 410.12, Subd. 7, upon recommendation of the Charter Commission, the City Council may enact a Charter amendment by ordinance. The City Council must hold a public hearing and the ordinance is enacted if it receives an affirmative vote of all members of the City Council The Charter amendment shall not become effective until 90 days after passage and publication. The proposed ordinance has been published in its entirety within the public hearing notice and following public hearing, such Ordinance is available for formal adoption. Recommendation: Staff is recommending adoption of the ordinance amending the City's Charter by changing the date of the Primary Election to correspond with that of the Statewide Primary election. Council Action: Motion to waive the City Charter requirement to read the Ordinance aloud and to adopt Ordinance #10-XXX amending the City's Charter Chapter 4, Section 4.1.1 Primary Elections - changing the date of the Primary Election from September to August.
