.%
Attn: Mick Kaehler, Building Official January 8, 2010
7550 Sunwood Drive NW Ramsey, MN 55303
Hello Mr. Kaehler,
I am writing to you on behalf of Randy Harris and myself and asking you to consider the
two of us in your search for electrical inspectors for the city of Ramsey.
We have been providing electrical inspection services for the city of Coon Rapids since
July 1, 2008. Each-one of us carries professional. liability insurance ($1,000,000.00 per
act; $10,000,000 total) as well as general liability insurance ($1,000,000.00 per act;
$2,000,000.00 total).
Together we have been working in an area that really only supports the need for one
electrical inspector. However, like Ramsey, Coon Rapids wished to have 2 inspectors
available so that their would always be a backup. Due to the costs of transportation,
health care, various insurances, and self employment taxes, this has not been a profitable
venture for either one of us. Never the less we signed an agreement with the city of Coon
Rapids to provide these services for 1-1/2 years which has concluded as of January 1,
2010.
At this point they have asked us to stay on and continue to provide these services for
another 6 months in the hopes that things will improve and that it might be possible to
obtain a normal full time position with them.
1 believe that it is in the best interest of everyone concerned that cansideration be given to
the thought of all of us working together to solve the electrical inspection needs for both
cities; Ramsey and Coon Rapids. Currently Randy and I get $35.00 per inspection and
each of us bill once a month. While this might. seem like a great deal of money, you will
not find one electrical contractor willing to do a one half hour service call for anything
close to this amount. Couple this to the number of inspections available, divided by 2,
and you will soon understand why Randy and myself continue to have other employment
and why we would both prefer to have a normal full time job.
I am told that Mr. Douglas Whitney (Chief Building Official for Coon Rapids) has or will
be in contact with you regarding this idea. I wanted to contact you as well and introduce
myself. Attached you will find a copy of my resume. You will also find attached a copy
of one of the plan reviews that I have both created (the general form) and done for Coon
Rapids (with the customer information taken out for privacy concerns). If there is
anything else I can provide you with please let me know.
