I
II
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Purpose

The City of Ramsey maintains 154 miles of City streets. As little as 25 years ago the vast
majority of these roadways consisted of a graded dirt surface. Today, all but 5~48 miles, or less'
than 4 percent remain as dirt streets.

During a discussion concerning the maintenance of dirt streets during the public
Works meeting, Staff was directed to prepare a feasibility study which would .identify the costs
associated with upgrading of these dirt streets. 'This. study is intended to comply with that
direction by offering two alternatives for each street. The tn:st alternative identifies.the costs
associated with brining each dirt street project up to a Class 5 roadway, with adequate drainage
and periodic dust control. The second alternative goes a step further with providing the street
with bituminous paving and a sealcoating five years afterward.

Scope of the Study

As mentioned previously the City currently recognizes 5.48 miles of dirt streets within ~ts road
system. A total of 3.6I miles of these dirt roads covered by eleven individual projects will be
addressed within this feasibility study. A brief description of eaCh project will be listed in the
next section. The remaining 1.68 miles of dirt streets are listed below andwill not be addressed
by this study for the following reasons.

l)

2)

Puma Street between Alpine Drive and T.H. 10 at one time provided a crossing of
the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe raikoad to Hi,way 10. This crossing was
abandoned for the Alpine Drive crossing of the tracks. Currently, there is only
one residence served by the 0.6 miles of street. RedevelOPment is expected within
this area and the future of his street aligurment is uncertain.

Limonite Street between 1 42"d A venue and 1 43rd Avenue was dedicated in the'
Gateway North Industrial P ark in .All the remaining streets within this
subdivision were paved along with development. Limonite Street serves as sole
access to only one lot, and that lot is presently undeveloped.

3)

The streets which include 1-52nd Avenue, I51'st Avenue and Fluor/ne Street, all in
the unplatted portion of section 24 had not been included here because they have
been addressed under another feasibility study which is currently pending.

4)

Traprock Street south of T.H. 10 accounts fo~ 0.52 miles of dirt street. At one'
time this street serviced two single family residences. The southmost.residence
has since been abandoned and is located with the floodway. The second residence
will eventually be removed for park development.

-34,-o~
