Minimum Desi~ Standards

If the unpaved street within the City are to be upgraded, [t is important to recognize that certain
minimum standards, be met. It would make little sense to expend monies to improve the surface
of the roadway if [t continues to be under water during rain events and snow melts, lit is therefore
imperative that adequate drainage be provided. In the. case of alternatives which will consider
improving roadway short of providing hard surfaced pavement, a minimum gravel street, the
road must conform to the mini_mum gayel street standards shown in Figure A. Further
upgading to a paved road will requJ/re complying with the minimum standard shown in Fibre B.

A. Carolina Acres

Existing Conditions

.This subdivision located on the northern boundary of Ramsey is service by two unpaved streets,
Xenolith and 176th Lane which provide sole access to eleven single family units. The existing
gravel surface various between 20 and 24 feet in width. 176th Avenue terminates in cul-de-sacs
on the east and west ends.

This roadway system drains to low areas on the north and east ends. The roadside ditch system
on the west end of 176th Avenue is welI developed. The roadside system along the east end.of
176~h Avenue is less developed as is the segment of ditch around the north east comer of
Xenolith and 176th Avenue. There are culverts under most drives, however, several are in poor
condition.

Proposed £mprovement Alternative A - Gravel Surface

This alternative would upgade the road by improving the roadside ditch system in the areas
where it is poorly defined or non-existent. Culverts would need t o b e p laced where they are
nonexistent and remaining culverts would be cleaned and repaired. A four-inch Class 5 surface
with a width of 24 feet would be provided consistent with the minimum standards illustrated in
Figure A. Salvaged topsoil would be used to. restore the disturbed areas wkich would be
reseeded and provided with adequate erosion control- until turf is established.

Following construction, an application of calcium chloride for dust control would be applied
annually in the spring or early summer. The roadway would be regarded approximately monthly
between April and October. A~er five years, two inches of. Class 5 would' be added to- the
roadway;

Proposed' £mprovemenrs - Alternative B - Paved Surface

Similar improvements to those described in Alternative A above would be made to improve
drainage. The roadway would be surfaced with two inches of wear course in addition to four
inches of Class 5 in comtbrmance with the minimum paving standards identified in Figure B.
The street would be restored five years after paving.

I
I
I
I
!
i
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
