May, 1983 <br />(Revised May 1, 1985) <br />(Revised January 1986) <br />(Revised December 31, 1986) <br />Specification 2361 Modified <br />Asphalt Concrete Surface <br />2361.1 DESCRIPTION <br />This work shall consist of constructing a wearing course <br />of hot plant mixed asphalt concrete mixture on a prepared base. <br />2361.2 MATERIALS <br />A. Aggregate Requirements <br />A1. Aggregate Types and Quality Requirements <br />The aggregates} used for mixture production shall <br />consist of a single aggregate type or a combination of primary <br />a49regate types, br a composite blend of aggregates (primary and <br />secondary aggregate types). <br />Crushed stone (Type CS - Class A, Class D, or <br />combination thereof), taconite tailings (Type TT) and steel slag <br />(Type SS) will be classified as primary aggre ate types. These <br />aggregates may be used singularly or in combination. <br />A composite aggregate blend shall consist of at least <br />80 percent (by weight) of a primary type aggregate or combination <br />thereof. The secondary aggregate type (20 percent maximum) shall <br />consist of sound, durable particles of gravel and sand, crushed <br />quarry/mine rock or screenings, synthetic aggregates, or <br />combinations thereof. Synthetic aggregates excluding steel slag, <br />must have the approval of the Engineer prior to use. <br />All aggregates shall be free of loosely bonded <br />aggregations, clayey lumps or other objectionable matter. <br />requirements ofTSpecificationo3141Texcept}asgmodified byathemeet the <br />following: <br />(1) Under 3141.2D1 <br />spall materials <br />materials shall <br />weight. <br />(Spall Materials), the total of all <br />in the composite of aggregate <br />not be more than 1.0 percent by <br />(2) Magnesium sulfate soundness requirements of 3141.2D2 <br />shall apply to the composite of aggregate materials <br />when the primary aggregate supplied for mixture is a <br />Class D, Type CS aggregate. <br />-1- <br />
