bituminous material incorporated into the
mixture (as determined by tank stickings, meter
readings or observation of batch weights) is
below the maximum asphalt content limit
previously specified. The normal 0.3 asphalt
content percentage point tolerance shall be
applied to the amount designated by the
Bituminous Engineer or his designee.
d) In the event that Type SS aggregate is supplied
for any portion of the mixture production and
the Marshall density at the recommended or
established asphalt content is in excess of 160
pounds, the weight of mixture supplied will be
reduced by 15 percent for payment. (payment for
mixture shall be at 85 percent of the contracted
unit price.)
e) The requirements for mixture proportions shall
be in accordance with 2331.3E: except that the
Job-Mix Formula (J.M.F.) percentages and
permissible working range will be established
based on the composite aggregate gradation of
the approved trial mix sample. The working
range, for all aggregate types (C.S., S.S.,
T.T., and/or combination thereof), will be
determined by applying plus and minus tolerances
to the J.M.F. The sieves and tolerances used in
establishing the working range shall be in
accordance with the following:
Sieve Size Tolerance (g)
3/8 inch +~
No. 4 +~
No. 10 +~
No. 40 +~
No. 200 +7
The working range shall not exceed the gradation
limits previously established in section
2361.2A2 of this specification.
The job-mix formula, as originally established,
shall remain in effect until modified in
writing. Should a change in source of
aggregate(s) be made, or when unsa tisfactory
results or other conditions make it necessary,
the Engineer will establish a new formula based
on the test results from a new trial mix
submittal.
-5-
