In accordance with Specifiation 1503, it is the
intent of this Specification (2361) that the
aggregate materials shall be uniform in
character and shall conform as nearly as
possible to the middle portion of the working
range (J.M.F.) so as to assure that the mixture
meets the design criteria. The working range is
to accommodate occasional variations from the
J.M.F. which are unavoidable for practical
reasons.
f) Aggregate samples and/or bituminous mixture
samples may be taken at any time during mixture
production and/or placement in order to assure
the Engineer that compliance with the aggregate
and mixture design requirements previously
established are being met.
In the event that it is established that the
fixture fails to meet the requirements of this
specification, mixture production shall be .
halted. Production will not be permitted until
the source of the problem(s) has been located
and corrections have been made and/or a new
job-mix formula (J.M.F.) has been developed in
which the mixture conforms to all design
requirements. Disposition of mixture which
fails to meet requirements will be determined by
the Engineer.
H. Compaction Requirements
Compaction shall be obtained by the Ordinary
Compaction Method (2331.3H3).
The minimum laydown temperature (as measured behind
the paver or spreading machine) of the bituminous mixture shall be
in accordance with temperature requirements specified herein.
Air
° Compacted Mat Thickness, Inches (1)
Temp
F 3/4 1 1-1/2 2 3 or Greater
+32-40 -- - 265(2) 255 250
+41-50 -- 270(2) 260 250 245
+51-60 270(2) 260(2) 255 245 240
+61-70 260(2) 250(2) 245 240 235
+71-80 250 245 240 235 235
+81-90 240 235 230 230 230
+91 235 230 230 230 225
(1) Based on approved or specified compacted lift
thickness.
(2) A min imum of one (1) pneumatic tired roll er
shall be used for intermediate rolling u nless
otherwise directed by the Engineer.
_6_
