INTRODUCTION
In January, 1979, a site study of the Gateway North Industrial Airport concluded
that development of an airport facility, capable of meeting Federal Aviation
' Administration (FAA) and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) standards,
on that site would be very difficult, if not financially impractical, due to
' serious ground space limitations. The site study further recommended, in view
of the demonstrated need and desire for a publicly-owned airport in the Ramsey
' area, that a search be made for an alternative site.
In June, 1980, the Minnesota Department of Transportation approved an Airport
Site Study State Aid Grant to evaluate alternative sites in a two-phase study.
The first phase, and the subject of this report, is a Preliminary Site Selection
which will be followed in Phase Two by a Detailed Analysis of the Final Site.
Two (2) sites have been identified for study in this Phase One report:
A) The area immediately north of .the Burlington Northern tracks
between County Roads #83 (Armstrong Boulevard) and #56 (Ramsey
Boulevard); and
B) The General Mills property lying generally north and west of the
Burlington Northern tracks and Puma Street in the area around Lake
Itasca.
1
