II
' CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
' The General Mills property has the available ground space area needed to fully
develop a Basic Utility - Stage II Airport in the City of Ramsey in accordance
with current FAA and MnDOT requirements.
This study report has illustrated two (2) possible schematic airport layout
plans for the site - utilizing primarily the land area north of Lake Itasca
in order to minimize the impact on prime commercial-industrial lands adjacent
to U. S. Highway 10-169 and the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks. As shown,
the wooded and floodway areas play major roles in locating, aligning and orienting
the runway alignments. The site topography should not necessitate major earth
moving operations to develop the airport facility.
Although two schematic airport layout plans have been evaluated in this study
and report, the General Mills property site has adequate land space area to
provide flexibility and is able to accommodate numerous other layout plans.
At this point, the City of Ramsey should make a serious and determined effort
to meet with the property owners, the General Mills Company, in an attempt to
gain their support and cooperation and to, then, develop an airport facility
to complement the comprehensive plans of both parties.
17
