have a higher demand for aircraft storage facilities, and the higher cost of twin- <br />engine and jet aircraft also increases demand for hangaz storage. <br />Aircraft storage at each of the reliever airports was estimated based on <br />available conventional hangar, T-hangaz, and tie-down storage capacity. To estimate <br />the number of aircraft that could be accommodated by conventional hangaz space, <br />an average storage requirement was developed per based aircraft. At four of the <br />system relievers, Anoka County-Blaine, Airlake, Crystal, and Lake Elmo, a storage <br />ratio of 1,400 squaze feet was used to relate conventional hangaz footage to based <br />aircraft storage capability. Higher density storage patterns that currently exist at <br />Flying Cloud and South St. Paul airports yielded a ratio of 1,000 squaze feet per <br />based aircraft. At St. Paul Downtown, a storage ratio of 4,000 squaze feet per stored <br />aircraft was used to account for the airport's lazge number of corporate hangars. <br />Corporate turboprop or turbojet aircraft are typically provided with relatively <br />spacious storage facilities when compared to public general aviation hangars. <br />Future demand and owner preference determine what hangaz facilities are <br />built. From a planning standpoint, it is important that each of the reliever airports <br />at least plan and provide for an adequate land envelope to accommodate required <br />storage facilities. This will give each airport the flexibility it needs to adjust to <br />changing demand patterns for storage facilities, such as a change in aircraft owner <br />preference from tie-down to hangaz storage. <br />The storage patterns at each of the reliever airports were examined to <br />determine how aircraft aze currently being stored. Five of the relievers, Anoka <br />County-Blaine, St. Paui Downtown, South St. Paul, Crystal, and Airlake, have the <br />majority of their based aircraft stored in conventional hangars. Flying Cloud and <br />Lake Elmo have an almost even split of based aircraft storage between conventional <br />hangars and T-hangars. Storage requirements for the new general aviation airport <br />were derived from average patterns at other relievers. These existing storage patterns <br />V-25 <br />
