(6) Automobile Pari_cinQ~quirement
Similaz to terminal building requirements, general aviation auto pazking
requirements aze derived from estimates of peak hour airport activity. The standard
indicates a need for 1.3 parking spaces per the typical number of general aviation
peak hour passengers or pilots.
Existing and future needs for auto pazking spaces based on peak hour activity
aze s,,,,,,.,ar~Pd in Table Vim. As indicated in the footnote is the table, MAC has.
indicated .that the existing practice of parking beside hangars at Airlake, Anoka
County-Blaine, Crystal, and Lake Elmo airports satisfies the demand for paved
parking. It is assumed this practice will continue throughout the planning period.
Therefore, no new paved parking azeas aze required at these airports. It is
recommended that atl new aircraft storage facilities be constructed at the reliever
airports to allow for adjacent parking. At South St. Paul, paved parking is currently
adequate. By the end of the planning period, this airport will require an additional
26 pazking spaces as demand increases.
8. RECOMMENDED RELIEVER SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Implementation of the recommended reliever rystem development plan requires that
actions be taken to maintain and make needed improvements to the region's reliever
airports. Based on the existing reliever airport system's ability to meet future. needs as
dictated by air and landside capabilities and service the seven-county geographic area,
specific recotttmendations and potential contingency plans were identified for each airport
in the recommended reliever system. A prioritization of the recommended improvements
is presented in Appendix D. This listing of priorities reflects the various requirements of
the federal, state, and local governmental units involved in aviation planning and
implementation.
•
V-33
