operations warrant. By the end of the planning period, 12,000 squaze feet of
terminal/administration azea will be required. Because such space is provided by
the airport's fixed base operators (FBOs), the provision of space will be contingent
on private development.
Automobile parking at the airport consists of 75 paved spaces. In addition,
many pilots and their passengers pazk inside hangars or adjacent to the storage
facilities while their aircraft are in use. MAC has indicated that this practice will
continue to be acceptable throughout the planning period. While standazd planning
ratios indicate the need for a substantial increase is paved pazlong, actual paved
pazking will not be required as long as areas adjacent to existing and future hangars
aze available for pazking.
The existing 3,000 square yards of itinerant apron at the airport are
inadequate to meet future demand By the end of the planning period, an additional
12,740 square yards of apron will be required. The airport's existing land envelope
should be able to accommodate the recommended development.
The aircraft owners and pilots survey associated with this study indicates that
FBO services, snow removal capabilities, low fuel prices, and aircraft security are very
important to a significant percentage of aircraft owners who base their aircraft at
Anoka County-Blaine Airport. As delay increases, a new general aviation airport (or
Gateway North Industrial Airport in a contingenry scenario) would be much more
likely to attract excess demand if the facility could adequately provide the services
mentioned above.
(3) Airside Facilities
The airport's existing runway system consists of a 4,855-foot long by 100-foot
wide primary ruttway (17/35) and a 3,202-foot long by 75-foot wide crosswind runway
(8/26). Both ruttways are served by connecting, full parallel taxiways. Currently,
V-38
