The airport is easily accessed by State Route 65 and Interstate 35 West. The
rnmvay extension project, which is currently programmed, will require that the street
east of the airport be closed. This will reroute traffic currently using this street to
101st Street. Airport access appears to be adequate throughout the planning period.
(6) ~jm i C Requirement
Short-term development projects resulting from the Regional System Reliever
Airports Study consist of terminal/administration area, itinerant ramp, aircraft
storage improvements, and a precision approach for Runway 26. In addition, eight
planned MAC capital improvement projects aze included. The total development
cost for all short-term projects is estimated at more than $5.3 million dollars.
Mid-tenor projects (through 1998) aze centered azound the construction of the
recommended parallel runway and taxiway. As stated previously, development costs
for runway and taxiway construction are based on inflating cost estimates in the 1983
master plan to 1989 dollars. Before a parallel runway. can be operated, it is
recommended that an ATCT be in place. Other key improvements for this period
include MIRL and REIIs for the new runway, additional aircraft storage, and
terminal/administration area improvements. The cosu .for these projects are
estimated at 54.7 million.
Long-terra development projects include additional terminal/administration
azea and itinerant apron. The estimated cost for these improvements, in current
dollars, is 5110,000.
MAC will continue to be the finanaal sponsor for the airport throughout the
planning period. Federal, state, and local funds are assumed to be .available for
appropriate projects. Other than the projects included in MAC's capital
improvement plan, routine maintenance and replacement costs were not included
in the development cost summary provided in Table V-7. f~
V-42
