An expansion of the 7,010-square foot terminal/administration building at
Crystal Airport should also be considered. An additional 4,200 squaze feet of
terminal azea will be required by the end of the planning period. Such terminal
space is typically provided by FBOs at an airport.
The existing combination of itinerant ramp and unoccupied tie-downs should
be adequate for the short and mid-term planning periods. By the end of the planning
period, however, as additional 4,700 square yards of itinerant ramp will be required.
The aircraft owners and pilots survey indicates fuel prices, snow removal, and
secure aircraft storage are important to the airport's pilots and aircraft owners in
their location decision. The airport currently provides these services.
(3) Airside Facilities
The airport's rumvay layout consists of three paved runways and one turf
runway. Rumvay 13L/31R is 3,264 feet long by 75 feet wide; Runway. l3R/31L is
3,267 feet long by 75 feet wide; and Rumvay SL/23R is 2,499 feet long by 75 feet
wide. RumHay SR/23L, the turf rumvay, is 2,123 feet long by 202 feet wide.
While the airport's number of annual instrument approaches qualifies it for
an 17S system, the limited tvrtway length diminishes its potential for being developed
as an 1FR runway. Therefore, it is unlikely that a precision approach can be installed
at the airport.
NAVAIDs at Crystal Airport include VASIs on Runways SL/23R and
13L/31R. REIIs are located on 13L/31R. Rumvays SL/23R and 13L/31R aze
equipped with MII2L A VOR-A approach, available on Runway 31R, provides
circ)ing *n;e;mnn+s of 500 feet and one to 1S mites visibility. The airport's NAVAIDs
also include a wind sock and a beacon. The airport currently has an ATCT and is
scheduled to have a D-Brite radaz monitor installed.
V-67
