According to the Airlake Airport Comprehensive Airport Development Plan, <br />the airport's existing runway configuration only provides 76.1 percent all-weather <br />coverage. This is significantly less than the 95 percent coverage recommended for <br />an airport. Therefore, a crosswind runway is recommended for the airport to <br />increase the effective wind coverage and improve the airport's ability to function as <br />a reliever for Minneapolis-St. Paul International. According to the Airlake Airport <br />Comprehensive Airport Development Plan, the addition of a crosswind runway <br />(4/22) will improve the airport's coverage to 93.1 percent. It is recommended that <br />this crosswind runway be 3,500 feet long by 75 feet wide. <br />NAVAIDs at Airlake Airport include REIZ and a VASI on Runway 11, a <br />MALSR on Runway 29, and MIItL on Runway 11/29. A precision approach is <br />available on Rumvay 29 and a VOR nonprecision approach is available on Runway <br />11. The ILS approach provides circling minimums of 580 feet and one to 1.5 miles <br />visibility. The airport's NAVAIDs also include a wind sock. <br />Existing NAVAIDs at the airport aze adequate for Rtmway 11/29. It is <br />recommended that the crosswind be equipped with M1RL and REILs. A <br />nonprecision approach such as a VOR-A could probably be implemented on either <br />or both of the crosswind runway ends. Further analysis would be required to <br />determine if there aze any airspace constraints that preclude a nonprecision approach <br />to the proposed crosswind. <br />(4) Area Airspace <br />Runway 11/29 is currently aligned with the primary rumvays at Minneapolis- <br />St. Paul International, thus providing compatible IFR traffic flows for the two <br />airports. Besides the current FIS and VOR instrument approach, Airlake also has <br />a VORTAC (Farmington VOR-FGT) with DME capability. This means that <br />additional IFR approach procedures could be designed for the airport if a crosswind <br />rumvay is added. • <br />V-93 <br />
