• generai aviation airport will only be operating at 29 percent of capacity. Considering
that neighboring reliever airports (Anoka County, Crystal, and Flying Cloud) will be
at capacity (80 percent of ASV) by the end of the planning period, the new airport
could be expected to serve the majority of additional growth in the northwestern
portion of the metropolitan region. If Anoka Cotmty-Blaine does not have a pazallel
ntaway in operation by the end of the planning period, the number of annual
operations could be significantly higher.
(2) Landside Facilities
To accommodate 100 based aircraft, the new airport would require
approximately 56,000 squaze feet of conventional hangaz storage, 40 T-hangaz stalls,
and tie-downs for 20 aircraft. It is important to note that these estimates aze based
on existing storage patterns at neighboring airports. Itinerant apron requirements
. aze estimated at 3,700 sgttaze yards. Pazking spaces for 100 automobiles and 4,000
squaze feet of terminal space is also recommended Table V 14 summazizes the
recommendations regarding requirements at a new general aviation airport.
The aircraft owners and pilots survey conducted for this study indicates that
aircraft owners at existing airports in the northwestern part of the metropolitan
region place a high priority on the following services: adequate snow removal
capabilities, competitively priced fuel, full-service FBO, secure storage, and precision
approach capabilities. It is recommended that the new airport be designed with these
services and amenities in mind
(3) inside Facilities
It is rernmmended that the new airport be sited to accommodate a primary
rumvay with an ultimate length of 6,000 feet. During the first phase of development,
a 5,000-foot long rttmvay should be adequate to accommodate diversion from Anoka
Cotmty-Blaine. It is important, however, that the airport sponsor secure the land to
V-100
