. aircraft gaze based at as airport other than Minneapolis-St. Paul
International. Of those responding to the survey, 18.3 percent
based an aircraft at Flying Cloud and 16.7 percent based an
aircraft at Anoka County-Blaine. These were the highest
percentages reported for the reliever airports.
The next question asked registered aircraft owners why they
based their aircraftwhere they did. The overwhelming response
was convenience to home or office. A similaz response to the
next question indicated registrants have no desire to relocate
in the neaz futtue.
Respondents were asked what could trigger a relocation. The
two answers that received the greatest response were closure
of an airport or a more convenient airport. Of those who were
willing to move to another airport, most chose the next closest
airport to their existing based airport.
Question 7 of the survey asked registered aircraft owners what
improvements were needed at the airport they are currently
based, and where they might relocate. The issues that were
most important at Minneapolis-St. Paul International and all of
. the relievers were fuel type/price, snow removal, and aircraft
security. The presence of as IIS was important at six of the
eight airports.
A runway length of 4,000 to 5,000 feet was the length required
by the majority of those surveyed. These respondents also said
they will not be affected by the Mode C requirement in the
area.
According to 56.6 percent of the respondents, an additional
reliever is not needed in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. Of
those who answered that an additional reliever was needed,
most indicated a need west of the Twin Cities. The next
question asked respondents where they would base their aircraft
if a new air carrier airport was developed to replace
Minneapolis-St. Paul International. The respondents were
unsure of the impact this would have on their aircraft basing.
The last question asked registered aircraft owners how much
longer they anticipated operating a general aviation aircraft in
the region. Most responded more than 10 years.
The overall results of the registered aircraft owners survey
. indicate that survey respondents base their aircraft primarily
near their home or office, and would move only to a more
I-32
